Central Minnesota Icebreaker Sees Format Change To Kick Off The New Year At The Viking
Speedway
2.21.13 ~ FYE Motorsports
– St. Cloud, Minnesota
The 2013 Central Minnesota Icebreaker (CMI), held
each April at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, Minnesota will see a
format change according to event promoter Chris Stepan with St. Cloud,
Minnesota based FYE Motorsports Promotions. The event will continue to
be the season opening event at the high flying half mile, which enters
its 48th year of operation this season, on April 25th-27th,
2013, but the event will take on its own format and no longer mimic its
sister event, the Viking Fall Classic, which is held each October and
will be entering its 11th year in 2013.
As most fans and drivers know, after a wildly
successful inaugural event in 2010, the Icebreaker has been forced to be
cancelled each of the past two seasons due to cold, rain and snow, but
hopefully the weather cooperates this spring and the new-look CMI can go
on as planned.
Two complete WISSOTA national point shows will be
held at this year’s Icebreaker for five WISSOTA divisions so drivers can
get a jump on the national point chase if they so choose to.
WISSOTA Late Models will run for $1,000 to win on
Friday night and $1,500 to win on Saturday night, where
the WISSOTA Modifieds will run for $750 to win on
Friday night and $1,000 to win on Saturday night. The WISSOTA Super
Stocks will be racing for $500 to win on Friday night a $650 winner’s
check on Saturday. WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and WISSOTA Street Stocks
will each be gunning for $350 on Friday night and $500 on Saturday.
An open practice session will be held on Thursday,
April 25th from 6p-9p for anyone wishing to partake and shake
the rust off after the long, cold winter. Practice admission prices will
be $25 per car/driver and $10 for anyone else wishing to enter the pit
area. The grandstands will be open for fans to come and view practice
free of charge. A post-practice party will be scheduled for Thursday
night as well.
Racing will then kick off at 6pm on Friday with
heats, b-mains and features for all 5 divisions on the schedule. Day two
will then kick off at 3pm on Saturday with the same schedule of heat
races, semi-features and features planned as well. Gates will open at
3pm on Friday and at 12pm on Saturday. Draw cut off will be 30 minutes
prior to the start time each day. No rain date will be scheduled.
Drivers will also be excited to know that there
will be no entry fees or draw fees for this event. Only a $35 (plus tax)
nightly pit pass will be required to enter the pit area for drivers and
crew members alike.
