Strand, Bitzan, Sabraski, Smith, Randt, Deschamp and Rohner Grab Gopher State Showdown Wins

Wolden Tops Scott Engfer Memorial GenX Late Model Main

I-94 Speedway put the wraps on the 2025 racing season as 250 cars across eight classes hit the track for the Scott Engfer Memorial Gopher State Showdown. A chance of rain forced officials to move the starting time up two hours — a great call, as rain started about five minutes after the final checkered flag.

In the WISSOTA Late Models, 33 cars rolled into town for the main event. Right from the drop of the green, Tyler Peterson grabbed the early lead while Dustin Strand and Ryan Corbett battled hard for second. With 34 laps to go, Shane Edgington joined the mix, and Strand moved into second, dropping Corbett to fourth. Brad Seng also advanced into the top four. The lead swapped several times between Strand and Peterson as heavy lapped traffic made things exciting. With 17 laps remaining, Peterson regained control, but Strand came roaring back with nine to go to take the lead for good. At the finish, it was Dustin Strand with a big win, followed by Dave Mass in second and Tyler Peterson third.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks brought 22 cars to the grid, and from the drop of the green, Shane Sabraski jumped out front. After an early yellow, the race settled in with Tim Johnson (1JR) and Jordan Henkemeyer (11A) chasing Sabraski, while Dexton Koch stayed right behind the leaders. Sabraski proved too strong, picking up another big win. Johnson ran a solid third, Henkemeyer finished fourth, and Trevor Nelson had an impressive charge to finish fifth.

In the WISSOTA Street Stocks, 24 cars lined up with young drivers Cole Gresseth and Levi Randt on the front row, followed by Eric Riley and Maria Broksiek. Randt took command early while Riley moved into second and Johnny Carter, filling in on the 77 car, grabbed third. With nine to go, the action heated up behind them as the 24 car moved past Gresseth for fifth. Randt held strong to score the win, followed by Riley in second, Carter third, Trey Hess fourth, and Casey Ussatis rounding out the top five.

The WISSOTA Modifieds drew 38 strong entries with Brandon Dolman and Dusty Bitzen leading the field to green. Bitzen took the early lead and never looked back, while Shane Sabraski gave chase in second. As the laps clicked off, Brady Gerdes powered past Sabraski for the runner-up spot, and Landon Atkinson charged forward to battle for third. At the checkers, it was Dusty Bitzen with an impressive win, followed by Gerdes, Sebrasky, Atkinson, and Ryan Gierke.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds had a massive 47-car field. Veteran Scott Tofte jumped out to an early lead over Memphis Klassen of Winkler, Manitoba, as the pair went door-to-door. Behind them, Jake Smith worked his way forward and took over the top spot with seven laps to go. Smith held off Klassen to claim a big win, with Tofte third, Kevin Yeager (returning from retirement) fourth, and Malachi Klassen fifth.

The WISSOTA Hornets closed the night with 26 cars in action. Jeff Rohner of Willmar grabbed the early lead and held off challenges from Christian Kast and William Lange. A scary moment occurred when Adrian Kubitz’s car caught fire in turns one and two, but he escaped unhurt. Rohner stayed strong to earn another solid victory.

In IMCA Northern Sport Mod action, Gabriel Deschamp picked up the win after a competitive feature, and in the GenX Late Models, 28 cars ran in honor of Scott Engfer. Ben Wolden scored the victory after holding off Travis Saurer, Jared Huus, and Adam Prieve in a hard-fought battle.
